BackPoor Foundations: the state of UK Home Connectivity is a report launched alongside WiredScore Home and in partnership with the HomeOwners Alliance. The report surveyed 2000 homeowners and renters and 150 building developers on their digital connectivity requirements.
Report findings:
- Poor home WiFi costs British homeowners and renters an additional £2.2 billion a year in mobile data fees
- 85% of British homeowners and renters have experienced connectivity issues with their home WiFi – a service they pay an average of £312 per year for
- To compensate for poor WiFi connections consumers are using an average of 2.5GB of data from their mobile providers each month, which can cost them additionally £153 across the year
- The most significant hindrances to a home’s connectivity include browsing social media (28%) and streaming TV and films (23%)
- All residential developers want more guidance on how they could improve the digital connectivity services (internet and cellular) of their existing or future developments
- A quarter of the nation would not have moved into their home had they been aware of the internet issues
- Two-thirds of residential developers can rent properties with good connectivity services at a higher price and/or with a greater yield
